PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent degradation in contrast and crosstalk failures which lead to display failures by devising the video input signal of a liquid crystal display device. SOLUTION: The image display device has an image display section where an electro-optic material is sealed between a pair of substrates, and a plurality of pixel electrodes arrayed in a matrix, switching transistors (TRs) connected to the pixel electrodes, and a plurality of data lines for supplying image signals to these switching TRs are formed on one substrate of these substrates, and has an image sampling means for sampling the analog image signals and for supplying the sampled image signals to the data lines. The analog image signals are inverted to plus and minus with respect to a common substrate potential at every horizontal scanning period and the potential waveforms of the analog image display signals at the time of the inversion are stepwise waveforms.
