The mechanism for adjusting the spring rate of a vehicle suspension comprises a rubber buffer (20) mounted on the top of the piston rod (16) of a shock absorber (18). A buffer plate (22) is mounted on the top of the cylinder and is supported by a spiral spring (26) whose spring rate is greater than or equal to that of the rubber buffer.
