PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an imaging apparatus and an imaging method in which a high number of gradation can be attained and lowering of image quality due to occurrence of a quantization error or an inappropriate moire can be suppressed. SOLUTION: Using threshold value data T1 obtained by converting a reference threshold value matrix by a first threshold matrix conversion table LUT1, continuous gray scale image data G is converted into binary image data D1, and using threshold value data T2 obtained by converting a reference threshold value matrix by a second threshold matrix conversion table LUT2, continuous gray scale image data G is converted into binary image data D2. Based on these binary image data D1 and D2, a C head 28 and an LC head 32 are driven, respectively, to form pixels of different densities constituting the same gray scale unit on a recording medium 34.
