PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an emulsion explosive having drastically higher stability than that of the conventional W/O (Water-in-Oil) type emulsion explosive. SOLUTION: The water droplet in oil type emulsion explosive contains 1 to 10wt% petroleum wax in a region held between respective straight lines obtained by the following equations of straight line A and straight line B as a continuous phase where an X-axis is defined as a refractive index and a Y-axis as a melting point, 50 to 95 wt% aqueous axidizing agent solution mainly comprising ammonium nitrate as a discontinuous phase, and 0.5 to 7wt% an emulsifier containing an organic surfactant with a hydrophobic group composed of a long-chain unsaturated fatty acid and water. The equation of the straight line A is Y=4.65x10<SP>3</SP>X-6580 (where X and Y are each a positive integer above 0) and the equation of the straight line B is Y=5.83x10<SP>3</SP>X-8180 (where X and Y are each a positive integer above 0).
