Roller comprises a base body (1) made from tempered forged steel or alloyed cast iron with a thin hard wear resistant layer (3) arranged on the surface, and peripheral holes (4) arranged in an axis-parallel manner in the base body. The steel or cast iron has a hardness of 400-620 HV and the holes are at a distance of more than 50 mm from the roller surface (6), measured to a point of a single hole close to the surface. The wear resistant layer has a hardness of 600 HV. A relaying layer (2) is arranged between the wear resistant layer and the base body.
