<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To detect wrapping of paper around a fixing roller and roller deformation, thereby enabling a user to securely remove wrapped paper, to perform roller replacement, etc. <P>SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus has at least: an image exposure means; an image carrier; a means for transferring a toner image formed on the image carrier to a sheet; and a fixing means which conveys the sheet after transfer while holding the sheet between the pair of rollers, and applies heat with a heat source incorporated in at least one of the rollers, so that the toner image transferred on the sheet is fixed to the sheet. In the image forming apparatus, at least one of the rollers of the fixing means has a means for detecting a change in the outside diameter of the roller or the irregularities of the peripheral face of the roller. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO |
