PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a document input system capable of easily and efficiently executing character inputs from a keyboard where a plurality of characters are allocated to the same key, and electronic equipment therewith. SOLUTION: A method includes preparing a dictionary which corresponds to a character string, consulting the character string composed of a combination of characters input from keys as a plurality of characters and the dictionary, and identifying the desired character from the plurality of characters allocated to the same key. A plurality of keys 217-221 having added selective functions are typed to determine desired characters as determined inputs from among a plurality of temporary inputs. The temporary inputs and the determined inputs are combined to input the character string so as to facilitate correction of the temporary inputs. The number of input candidates provided by consulting the dictionary is reduced to increase the hit ratio of input candidates. COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
