PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To form a long image by releasing the restriction due to the length of an intermediate transfer body. SOLUTION: When a long image exceeding the maximum image forming length of the intermediate transfer body is formed on a recording medium, a secondary transfer to the recording medium as well as a primary transfer to the intermediate transfer body are carried out while the long toner image is formed on a photoreceptor. Then, feeding is carried out again to a printing position after changing the printing color and the primary transfer and the secondary transfer for the next color are carried out. For example, when the secondary transfer for black (K) is finished, the recording medium is fed again to the printing position and the primary transfer and the secondary transfer for the next color, cyan (C), are carried out. After that, magenta (M) and yellow (Y) are processed in the same way.
