PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a synthetic corundum cell which has excellent transparency and chemical resistance and obtains required optical characteristics and mechanical strength in a simple manufacturing step. SOLUTION: Polished connecting surfaces of two synthetic corundum pieces 4, 5 are superposed on each other and one ends of the pieces 4, 5 are brought into close contact with each other, and then heated at a temperature equal to or lower than a melting point of the corundum in this state, and the pieces 4, 5 are thereby connected.
