METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR APPLET-GENERATED SCREEN DISPLAYS USING COMPUTER DATABASE AND PROGRAMMING LANGUAGE

The present invention relates to the field of electronic screen displays and electronic data storage and retrieval. The apparatus includes a plurality of remote sites, a web server, and a database server. The database server includes a control box program for generating and interpreting pseudo code. A user at a remote site uses a web browser at a PC or workstation to access a web server hosting a database, application, and development toolkit. After the specific web browser of the user is identified, the web server downloads a web browser-specific applet. The downloaded applet acts as a screen engine and displays a data entry screen on the user's PC or workstation. The user enters data into a field on the data entry screen. The user triggers an event recognized by the applet. The applet responds to the event and, using its data delivey engine functions, evaluates the data entered into the data field for conformity with predefined criteria for the data field. The applet transmits the data, via the Internet/intranet to the web server. The data is applied to the control box program, which passes the data to the database. The database passes a response to the control box program, which then generates pseudo code, with is in turn transmitted, via the Internet/intranet to the applet. The applet updates one or more fields within an existing user screen or may generate one or more screen displays using the information returned to it from the control box program.
