PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an auxiliary power unit for an electric vehicle that effectively utilizes regenerated power.

SOLUTION: The regenerated power generated by an induction motor 7 is charged to a secondary battery 13 in regenerating a railway vehicle 100. In powering and coasting, the power charged in the secondary battery 13 is fed to a boosting/step-down chopper circuit 12 and a load circuit 9 via an auxiliary power circuit 8.
