PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an encoding apparatus and method for enabling continuous reproduction in a decoding apparatus, and a decoding apparatus, and method for making possible continuous reproduction.

SOLUTION: The encoding apparatus for carrying out encoding processing according to an encoding scheme specified to use at least a B picture as a predictive encoding target, is provided with a timing calculating means for calculating a timing to output the decoded result of a plurality of encoded information resulting from the execution of encoding processing on the assumption that the encoded information is to be successively decoded on a decoding side, and a timing notification means for notifying the decoding side of the output timing calculated by the timing calculating means before obtaining the decoded result of the corresponding encoded information.
