<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a motion picture encoding method and a motion picture decoding method with which a picture quality of a decoded image is improved as high as possible even when an error occurs in decoding to lose synchronism of variable length codes. <P>SOLUTION: On a motion picture encoding side, all data kinds to apply variable length encoding are encoded by using the variable length codes each having a synchronism self-recovery function. On a decoding side, arriving encoded data encoded by using the variable length codes each having the synchronism self-recovery function are decoded. In such a case, information for recognizing, on the decoding side, the end or the like of an out-of-synchronism data portion such as a start code specifying hierarchical regions comprising one picture is also contained in the output encoded data from the encoding side. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO</p> |
