PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make it possible to more easily reproduce/record data from/to both sides of a disk. SOLUTION: A CPU 11 sets in a flash memory 14 that each disk is double-sided one. A head part 16 reads data recorded on the first side of a selected disk. Upon the end of the reading of the data recorded on the first side of the selected disk, the CPU 11 determines whether the disk from which the data is read is a double-sided disk or not based on the set indication of the double-sided disk. When the disk is determined to be a double-sided disk, the head part 16 reads data recorded on the second side of the disk. The invention is applicable to a disk recording/playback device.
