The flying top toy comprises a circular ring shaped first rotational body (11) with aerodynamic propelling elements, and a second rotational body (12) connected to the first rotationally secured coaxial but at a distance through a cylindrical connecting element (13) which has a much smaller outer diameter than the two rotational bodies. The connecting element is preferably shaped as two truncated cones abutting each other by their smaller surfaces. Independent claim describes method for operating toy by winding up a whip belt round the connecting element, throwing up the toy and suddenly whipping down the belt.
