<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make a coating strip firmly splice to the cutting end edge to be protected so as not to be slipped any longer. <P>SOLUTION: The cutting end edge of the banded carton, which is provided with a sealable protecting layer on both the surfaces, is coated by the coating strip which can be folded with the cutting end edge as a center and connected to the surface of the banded carton by heating and pressing. The coating strip, as a sealable banded strip, is guided so that the flat side may contact the cutting end edge of the banded carton continuously fed at the combined part. Then, the strip is guided in parallel against the cutting end edge to be protected and folded, and then press-contacted. In the above method, both surfaces of the banded carton, in the area of the cutting end edge to be coated, is heated up to a sealing temperature before reaching the combined part.
