PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To remove the tacky adhesive dust generated in subjecting alignment layers to rubbing treatment from display regions of substrates surfaces. SOLUTION: Grooves 20 an 34 long in a direction orthogonal with the direction of the rubbing treatment are formed on the surfaces of both substrates, an active matrix substrate 10 and a counter substrate 30, which surfaces are to be subjected to the rubbing treatment. The tacky adhesive dust generated during the rubbing treatment is collected and housed, thereby the remaining amount of the dust onto the display regions can be reduced. Since barriers are not disposed on the alignment layers, the occurrence of unevenness in the rubbing density after the rubbing treatment due to such barriers is prevented. COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO |
