PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a scanning optical device which can stably maintain an adjusted position after the position of an imaging means for imaging scanning light and an image forming apparatus which provides excellent image quality. SOLUTION: A cover 10 is inserted into a snap-fit section 51a by sliding toward an arrow 52 and attached to an optical box 8. A snap-fit section 51c is constructed to fix the cover 10 to the optical box 8 while permitting the deformation by thermal expansion etc., to the sliding direction (arrow 52 direction) of the cover 10. The attaching direction is made to relate approximately parallel with the axis of rotation to the arrow 11 direction (rotating direction) where bending is adjusted. COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
