PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a heat developable photosensitive material having high sensitivity, good raw stock preservability, good image preservability and a good color tone of a silver image with a small coating weight of silver and realizing a short heat development time, and to provide a development method using the same. SOLUTION: The heat developable photosensitive material comprises a photosensitive silver halide, a non-photosensitive organic silver salt, a reducing agent and a binder on the same face of a support, wherein the reducing agent is a compound represented by formula (1) and the photosensitive silver halide has been reduction-sensitized. In the formula (1), R<SP>11</SP>and R<SP>11</SP>' are each independently a 1-20C alkyl; R<SP>12</SP>and R<SP>12</SP>' are each independently H or a substituent substitutable on each benzene ring; L is -S- or -CHR<SP>13</SP>-; R<SP>13</SP>is H or a 1-20C alkyl; and X<SP>1</SP>and X<SP>1</SP>' are each independently H or a group substitutable on each benzene ring.
