PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus equipped with a separation means having high separation stability to wide transfer material and preventing the occurrence of a transfer defect (repellent) such as the omission of an image. SOLUTION: In the image forming apparatus, a separation part has two or more separation electrodes, a partition plate is positioned between two or more separation electrodes, and a high-voltage power source is set for each of two or more separation electrodes independently, and the voltage applied to two or more separation electrodes can be individually set in accordance with the physical property of the transfer material. Then, two or more separation electrodes are set so that the voltage applied to the separation electrode on a transfer means side may be higher than the voltage applied to the succeedingly disposed separation electrode on a downstream side.
