PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an improved mechanism for vertically positioning a print head. SOLUTION: A multiple position Z-axis standardization structure is located movably between a print head assembly (18) installed in a printing apparatus (10) having a frame (12) for localizing orthogonal X-axis, Y-axis, and Z-axis and a carriage (16) supporting the assembly (18) in the printing apparatus (10). The first and second standard positions (24, and 26) separated at a distance approximately in the X-axis direction and the third standard positions (28 and 30) separated at a distance in the Y-axis direction from the first and second standard positions (24 and 26) and separated at a distance in the X-axis direction from at least one of the first and second standard positions (24 and 26) are provided.
