PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a binding apparatus, improved in performance of passing welt fabric between a knife guide and a material guide. SOLUTION: This binding apparatus 10 includes: two sewing needles N for forming two seams in the material; a binder (a front binder 40b) formed substantially like an inverted-T shape by a vertical plate 41 and a base plate 42; the knife guide 44 disposed at the front end of the binder and extended to cover the side of a center knife 70; material guides 50 disposed on both right and left sides of the binder and extended to the vicinity of the knife guide through the space between two sewing needles; and an elevating mechanism 60 for holding the material guide to be movable in the vertical direction. The elevating mechanism moves the material guide substantially in the vertical direction corresponding to the thickness of the material. Accordingly, the distance between the tip of the material guide and the knife guide is little changed before and after lifting of the material guide, so as to improve the performance of passing the welt fabric.
