<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent troubles in operation due to the fall in molten-metal temperature when a cold iron source is melted by an arc by using an arc melting facility having a preheating chamber directly connected to the top of a melting chamber while keeping the state where the cold iron source exists in both the preheating chamber and the melting chamber. <P>SOLUTION: The arc melting facility 1 equipped with the following is used: the melting chamber 2; the shaft-type preheating chamber 3 which is directly connected to the melting chamber and into which exhaust gas generated in the melting chamber is introduced; and a magnetic field generator 13 for blocking the dropping of the cold iron source 16 in the preheating chamber by the generated magnetic field. The cold iron source in the melting chamber is melted by the arc 19 while feeding the cold iron source into the preheating chamber in such a way that the state where the cold iron source exists in both the melting chamber and the preheating chamber can be kept. When the prescribed amount of molten metal 17 is pooled in the melting chamber, the dropping of the cold iron source in the preheating chamber is blocked by the magnetic field generator. After the molten metal in the melting chamber is heated by the arc and subjected to temperature raising, the molten metal is tapped in the state where the cold iron source exists in the preheating chamber. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO</p> |
