OPTICAL ELEMENT MATCHING DEVICE USING ELECTRONIC CAMERA

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a system and process completely possible to scale toward all two-dimensional optical array without several power meters. SOLUTION: The device matches an optical fiber array having first and second edges with optical fiber light source with the first edge of the optical fiber array. This is conducted by using an image of the second edge of the optical fiber array caught by CCD camera while the first edge of the optical fiber array is shifting to the optical fiber light source. The device includes a controller connected with a matching stage shifting the first edge of the optical fiber array and a variable attenuator between the second edge of the optical fiber array and the camera. The controller controls the optical fiber matching device responding to the light offered by the electronic camera. The camera is used for rough matching and an optical power meter connected with the matching stage is used for precise matching. COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
