PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a document management system capable of distributing data storage regions. SOLUTION: A server computer 2 extracts compressed code corresponding to a low resolution image according to arbitrary hierarchy, transmits the compressed code corresponding to the extracted low resolution image to a client computer via a network, and stores compressed code corresponding to a high resolution image, where the compressed code corresponding to the low resolution image according to arbitrary hierarchy is removed from all compressed codes, in a storage section 15. On the other hand, the client computer 4 receives the compressed code corresponding to the low resolution image according to any class, which is transmitted from the server computer 2 via the network, and stores the received compressed code corresponding to the low resolution image in the storage section 15.
