PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a sliding door device with which impact sound to be generated at closing or opening of the sliding door is relaxed, and closing and opening motions of the sliding door are braked by keeping stillness. SOLUTION: The sliding door device is so constituted that the sliding door 1 suspended from a rail 11 is automatically closed along the rail 11 by letting go of the opened sliding door 1. A damper 16 projecting a rotatable shaft body 27 thereto and making good use of flow resistance of an oil damped by comparing a rotational operation in the predetermined direction of the shaft body 27 with a rotational operation in the opposite direction is mounted on the upper end of the sliding door 1. A pinion 28 is provided to the shaft body 27 of the damper 16, the pinion 28 is engaged with a closed damping rack 29 mounted to a position near to the door front end along the rail 11 to rotate the shaft body 27 in the predetermined direction by engaging the pinion 28 with the rack 29 in the case the sliding door 1 is closed. Accordingly, in the sliding door device constituted so as to give damping force to the sliding door 1, a flexible thin piece 32 is provided to a gear 29c located on the end of the rack 29 with which the pinion 28 begins to engage in the case the sliding door 1 is closed, and the impact sound beginning to engage the pinion 28 with the rack 29 can be relaxed.
