The invention describes a system for locking and unlocking containers (1) to truck chassis, railroad cars, airplane cargo decks and to each other when loaded onto ships or in container yards. The invention is comprised of a plate (20) and spring (22) housed in the upper corner casting of a container (1), a line (25) with one end attached to the plate (20) in the upper corner casting which runs through two turning blocks (24) and then to at least one shaft of a locking leg (30) housed in a lower corner casting of a container. This assembly can rotate. When a lifting device (50) such as a spreader is landed on the top of the corner casting of a container (1), the twist lock (55) of the spreader mates with the corner casting and rotates to lock onto the corner casting. When the spreader twist lock (55) enters the corner casting it forces the plate (20) downward compressing the spring (22) which in turn pulls the line (25) connected to the plate downward. The line (25), after running through turning blocks (24) then pulls on the shaft of at least one locking leg (30) housed in the lower corner castings of a container allowing it to be unlocked from it's base and vice versa. |
