A reactor for endothermic reactions of gaseous or gas-solid mixtures has heating block(s) filling the reactor cross-section which are electrically insulated from the reactor wall and optionally from one another, each block being provided with power connections and consisting of open-cell foam which heats up when a voltage is applied and transfers heat to the mixture.
