<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a flame retardant which is prepared by jointly using a phosphorus compound and a phosphazene compound having phosphorus and nitrogen atoms in its skeleton and/or a phosphazene composition and exhibits excellent effects even when added in a small amount; a polymer composition containing the same; and a molded article obtained from the polymer composition. <P>SOLUTION: The flame retardant comprises (J) a phosphorus compound and (A) a cyclic phosphazene compound represented by general formula (1) (wherein m is an integer of 3-10; and Q<SP>1</SP>and Q<SP>2</SP>are each an aryloxy, alkoxy, amino, monoalkylamino, or dialkylamino group).
