PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a conveying device allowing alteration of a layout to be easily performed and a conveyance stand conveying method. SOLUTION: Propeller shafts 5 between conveying devices 1a to 1e disposed adjacent to each other are connected to each other through universal joints to form an assembly line. Free rollers installed on the conveyance stand 2 movably guided in the conveyance stand conveying direction are pressed against the propeller shafts 5 in the specified directions relative to the propeller shafts 5. When the free rollers and propeller shafts 5 are rotated, lateral forces act on the free rollers, and act as propulsions for the conveyance stands 2 on the conveyance stands 2 to convey the conveyance stands 2. When a line layout is altered, the conveying devices 1a to 1e can be connected to or disconnected from each other, as necessary, to cope with its change. COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
