The lift-cage (40) is guided along vertical guides in a vertical shaft (22) in the wall opening of which a drive mechanism drives a drive-disc (34) over which cables (58) run. One end of the cables is attached to the cage, and the other end to a counterweight (64).. The cage has a support frame (42) which has guides cooperating with guide rails . The cables run from the disc to stop-points (62,66)on the cage
