摘要 <P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a manufacturing method of a gas diffusion electrode for fuel cells which is capable of further improving the conductivity of the gas diffusion electrode by reducing its electric resistance. <P>SOLUTION: This gas diffusion electrode includes, as base materials, carbon fiber, expanded graphite having a number of concavities and convexities on the surface, and a binder for binding the expanded graphite with the carbon fiber. And tangles of the carbon fiber with the expanded graphite are maximized. In its manufacturing, a first liquid-like fluid including the carbon fiber, the expanded graphite, and a first binder possible to be burnt off are prepared, and then a carbon sheet is formed with the solid component of the first liquid fluid after being separated into solid and liquid components by means of a papermaking treatment. Further, a second liquid-like fluid including a second binder with water-shedding properties and the carbon sheet having been processed on a papermaking process are made to contact with each other, thereby impregnating the second binder into pores in the carbon sheet. Finally, the second binder that has water-shedding properties and is impregnated in the carbon sheet is adhered by heating the carbon sheet, and at the same time the first binder is burnt off. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
