<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an organic thin film of a new form including an optically functional site having a two-dimensional regular lattice-like structure of sub-micron size, and to provide an optical recording medium which can record and reproduce in a packing density exceeding a diffraction limit of a pickup lens impossible to be realized by a conventional optical recording medium and which reduces a signal noise by utilizing the organic thin film including the optical functional site having the two-dimensional regular lattice-like structure of sub-micron size. <P>SOLUTION: (1) A functional organic thin film includes a two-dimensional regular lattice-like structure only made of a functional organic material (functional pigment) on a substrate. (2) A method of manufacturing the functional organic thin film having the two-dimensional regular lattice-like structure only made of the functional organic material on the substrate includes the steps of forming a lattice-like pattern of a polymer regularly arranged on the substrate in a self-organizing manner, then embedding a functional organic material in a pore part of the lattice structure, and thereafter removing the polymer with a solvent. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO |
