A plastic profiled head (2) is extruded onto the long side (5) of a flat textile material (4) for stitching onto a cushion cover. The textile has open mesh spaces (9) between the individual threads and between two opposing shanks (6) of the head profile. Extruded plastic material penetrates through the spaces to form material bridges between the two faces of the textile and forms a secure connection between head profile and textile. Head profile material is extruded onto the flat material (4) at a speed which takes account of the melting point, viscosity, wetting characteristics of both materials and thickness of the flat material so that a secure connection is achieved. The melting point of the head profile material is lower than that for the flat material. Size and shape of the spaces (9) depend on the properties of the thermoplastic and flat material. Area coverage of the flat material by the two shanks of the head profile is such that the material bridges ensure sufficient security of connection between them. If the head profile and flat material are of the same plastic type the flat material is guided through the die at a temperature lower than that of the thermoplastic for the head. Independent claims are included for: a) a process for manufacturing the fastener in which a head profile (2) is extruded onto an area of flat material (4) by extruding plastic through a die at below extrusion temperature together with the flat material so that the plastic penetrates the mesh spaces (9) of the fabric before cooling; b) an extrusion die for production of the fastener with a feed channel for plastic and a die orifice whose one area corresponds to the shape of the cross-section of the flat material and whose other area, parallel to the first and connected to it, corresponds to the head profile shape.
