<p>A silicon compound represented by the formula (1). In the formula (1), R<1>'s each independently is hydrogen or a group selected from the group consisting of alkyl, (un)substituted aryl, and (un)substituted arylalkyl and A<1> is an organic group substituted by a halogenated sulfonyl group, and preferably is a group represented by the formula (2). In the formula (2), X is halogeno, R<2> is alkyl, a is an integer of 0 to 2, and Z<1> is a single bond or C1-10 alkylene. (1) (2) The silicon compound is a silsesquioxane derivative which functions as an excellent radical polymerization initiator capable of forming a living polymer. For example, when an acrylic monomer is caused to coexist with the silsesquioxane to initiate polymerization, an acrylic polymer the molecule of which extends from one site in the silsesquioxane structure can be formed. Since the halogenated sulfonyl group has strong electrophilicity, various silsesquioxane derivatives can be synthesized by reacting the silicon compound with various nucleophilic reagents. The silicon compound can hence be used as an intermediate useful in organic syntheses.</p> |
