The method involves providing the available resources in a resource pool from which a resource component is taken for each competing data stream and associated with that data stream. Dynamic adaptation of the resource demand for a data stream takes place by allocating a correspondingly greater resource component for an increased demand as far as possible or returning no longer required resources to the pool. Independent claims are also included for the following: an arrangement for dynamic control of resource allocation to a number of competing data streams in a communications network.
