Capacity analysis for spread spectrum radio communication systems using a stochastic knapsack on the umts air interface

A stochastic knapsack is employed in a method of analysing a capacity of a spread-spectrum radio communication system offering at least two different services to users. An object size for each offered service is dependent upon a transmission power of a signal transmitted by or to a user of the service concerned, for example an energy per user bit over spectral noise density of the signal. This enables the knapsack to take into account different quality of service requirements, even when the services are of different types (e.g. circuit-switched and packet-switched) or at different bit rates).
