Apparatus for making webs

The machine (10) to produce a fiber web (38), e.g. for the production of fiberboards, has a recirculating press belt (12) forming a press gap with a counter surface (14) at a drum (16). A number of successive press units (20) are deployed in the direction (L) of web travel, to press the belt with the web against the counter surface. The press units have at least a partially independent control (30) to set the pressure applied to the web to set and adjust its bulk density profile, and at least one press unit is an adjustable bending roller. The press gap can be heated at least on one side.
