In the rotor of an electric machine, e.g. a small motor, comprising an iron core 2 having radial slots (4), Fig. 1, receiving a rotor winding of which the heads 5, 6 are supported at both ends of the core by electrically insulating end plates 7, 8, each plate comprises a cylindrical portion 10 surrounding the rotor shaft 1 and having on its inside open-ended axial channels communicating with radial channels in a radial flange portion 11 which latter channels cause a cooling air flow. The channels may be formed by slots 12, 13, the core 2 may be laminated and have its bore (15), Fig. 5, recessed to form channels 17 interconnecting the end plate channels, and the flange portions 11 have the same shape as the core laminations 3. The invention avoids the necessity for separate fan wheel, in rotors having a commutator 9. |
