A composition for cleaning or drying articles, especially metal or plastic articles, comprises one or more fluorochlorohydrocarbon solvents and one or more amine salts of undecyl or tridecylbenzene sulphonic acid. Specified salts are the ethylamine, isopropylamine and diisopropylamine salt. The benzene nucleus of the salt may be alkyl-substituted in addition to the undecyl or tridecyl substituent. The solvent may be trichlorofluoromethane, sym-tetrachlorodifluoroethane, 1,2,2 - trichloro - 1,1,2- trifluoroethane or mixtures thereof. Optional ingredients are (a) non-ionic surface active agent and (b) ammonia. The compositions may be water-free or contain up to 33% by wt. of water in the form of a water-in-oil emulsion. The emulsions are used for cleaning and the water-free compositions, or those containing a small amount of water, are used for drying the cleaned article. The water-free compositions may contain up to 33% by wt. of the salt. |
