PURPOSE: An apparatus and a method for supplying power of a power-saving type monitor/TV are provided to minimize loss of power by operating an input synchronous switch as the need arises. CONSTITUTION: A power-saving monitor which is operating in a normal mode is converted into a power-saving mode in the case that no video signal is inputted for a predetermined time(S10). A microcomputer applies a first power-saving signal to a video switch for turning off power applied to the video switch(S20). The microcomputer applies a second power-saving signal to a synchronous switch to turn on the synchronous switch only when the microcomputer discriminates a synchronous signal while normally turning off the synchronous switch(S30-S50). If the synchronous signal is applied to the synchronous switch, power applied to the video switch and the synchronous switch is turned on(S60-S70). The power-saving mode is converted into the normal mode(S80).
