A warp knitted fabric comprises two separately knitted ground fabrics with a fibrous staple web therebetween the staples of which web are interknitted or interlocked with both ground fabrics. The duplex fabric thus produced may be slit or divided by cutting through the staples of the fibrous staple web so as to provide separate lengths of the ground fabric each with a warp pile surface. The fibrous staple material is fed in a continuous film and is drawn in by the knitting action alone. The fibres may be of vegetable, animal, cellulosic nylon or other man-made origin.
