PURPOSE: An apparatus for recording and playing video, and a method for displaying a list of stored programs are provided to easily grasp contents of a program, and easily remember the program by easily changing a title of the program in a list of programs. CONSTITUTION: An interface unit is installed on a main body for receiving a user input signal from an external input device capable of selecting functions supported by an apparatus for recording and playing video. If receiving a program list picture display requesting signal from the external input device, a main controller displays guide information related to each program stored in a memory device, wherein the guide information includes still picture information(701) extracted from a predetermined part of whole images of the program.
