PURPOSE: A method for managing ATM resources in an ATM-based mobile communication system is provided to assign reserved ATM resources to sections having smaller call resources than the ATM resources, and to dynamically assign/cancel the ATM resources in sections having more call resources, thereby reducing time for assigning/cancelling the resources. CONSTITUTION: If a CCP(Call Control Processor) transmits an ATM connection setup request message to an ATM connection controller, the ATM connection controller extracts a call resource and ATM connection type information from the ATM connection setup request message(S10,S12). The ATM connection controller inputs the extracted call resource and the ATM connection type information to a mapping function, obtains an ATM resource to be used for setting an ATM connection by being mapped with the call resource extracted from the ATM connection setup request message, and returns the obtained ATM resource to the CCP with a resource assignment result value(S14,S16).
