PURPOSE: A battery protection system is provided to prevent damages and explosion of battery by discharging voltages of the battery upon occurrence of overcharge or overheat. CONSTITUTION: A battery protection system comprises a voltage sensor(22) for sensing the voltage of a battery(10) and outputting the battery voltage; a temperature sensor(24) for sensing the temperature of the battery and outputting the sensed temperature; a temperature sensor converter(25) for converting the output of the temperature sensor into digital data; a discharge unit(26) connected to the battery; and a control unit(20) for receiving the voltage and temperature of the battery from the voltage sensor, temperature sensor and the temperature sensor converter, and discharging the battery through the discharge unit if the received voltage and temperature are higher than the preset voltage and temperature.
