A handle 1 of a door or window is secured on a rectangular cross-section spindle 5 by a spring clip 7 retained in a cavity 3 in the handle 1 by a conical spring washer 9, the spring clip 7 having opposed inclined tongues 8 (Fig. 3, not shown) which permit assembly of the handle on the spindle and then frictionally grip the spindle to prevent reverse movement, the clip 7 being split at 14 whereby a tool, e.g. screwdriver, inserted through a transverse hole (16) in the handle (Fig. 2, not shown) into the slot between ears (17) may spread the clip which together with the handle is thereby released from the spindle 5. The clip 7 is formed with axially extending legs 12 to position it in the handle cavity 3, one leg 13 being longer and engaging a slot in the cavity bore to ensure correct assembly.</p> |
