PURPOSE: An adsorbent with large specific surface area and excellent adsorptivity for phosphorus and nitrogen removal is provided to improve adsorption efficiency to nutrients such as phosphorus and nitrogen from wastewater with only a small amount of the adsorbent. CONSTITUTION: The method for manufacturing an adsorbent for phosphorus and nitrogen removal comprises the steps of preparing a composition by mixing 60 to 80 parts by weight of hard calcium carbonate (CaO) with 20 to 40 parts by weight of ferric oxide (Fe2O3); adding a binder being selected from natural polymer such as chitosan, cellulose, starch and synthesized water soluble polymer such as polyvinyl alcohol, polyethylene oxide to the composition to granulate the composition; drying the granule; heating the granule up to 1,100 deg.C at a temperature elevation ratio of 3 deg.C/min; sintering the heated granule in a temperature range of 1,100 to 1,200 deg.C for 2 hrs; cooling the sintered granule to ambient temperature at a cooling ratio of 5 deg.C/min.
