PURPOSE: A method and an apparatus for driving an LCD are provided to reduce the capacity of a memory and improve the picture quality by reducing the bit number of data inputted into a lookup table and a frame memory. CONSTITUTION: A method for driving an LCD includes an input process, a reduction process, a selection process, and a modulation process. The input process is to receive source data. The reduction process is to reduce the bit number of the source data(S2-S4). The selection process is to compare a previous frame and a present frame of the source data having the reduced bit number to each other and select the modulated data according to a compared result. The modulation process is to modulate the source data by using the selected data.
