The starter comprises an electric motor (M) with an output pinion. The starter includes an electromagnetic contact (6) situated near to the front face of the rear bearing (7). The mobile core (3) of the contact (6) is connected to the lever (20) which actuates the starter (30) via a second control lever (50) forming part of the return mechanism. The electric starter comprises an electric motor (M) coupled to an output shaft associated with a starter (30) which carries a pinion, and a de-clutchable transmission system. A first lever (20) activates the starter, moving it between a rest position in which it is disengaged from the toothed wheel, and a working position in which it engages with the toothed wheel. The starter includes an electromagnetic contact (6) situated near to the front face of the rear bearing (7), and extending perpendicular to the longitudinal axis of the electric motor (M), opposite the starter (30). The mobile core (3) of the contact (6) is connected to the lever (20) which actuates the starter (30) via a second control lever (50) forming part of the return mechanism. The return mechanism includes a rectilinear shaft (40) lying outside the stator of the electric motor (M).
