Pure synthetic peptide (I) is a 95 amino acid sequence given in the specification, or its derivative or immunogenic fragment, is new. Independent claims are also included for: (1) an antibody (Ab) specific for (I), and its fragments or derivatives with essentially the same antigenic specificity; (2) preparing (M1) specific anti-AA4RP (apolipoprotein AIV related protein) antibodies (Ab1) by immunization with (I); (3) detecting (M2) or quantifying AA4RP by complex formation with Ab or Ab1; and (4) identifying (M3) a predisposition or risk of developing disorders of lipid metabolism, and for monitoring treatment of these disorders, by in vitro/ex vivo quantification of AA4RP, using Ab or Ab1.
